ADC To Tinubu:"Fight Terrorist, Not Opposition"

News

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu over his declaration that he is prepared to "fight to the finish" politically, urging him to prioritize the fight against terrorism and insecurity instead of focusing on political opponents.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party expressed concern that the President made the remarks during a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while the country continues to face serious security challenges.

The ADC cited the recent attack on Naridon village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where at least 30 people were reportedly killed, describing the incident as another reminder of the nation's worsening security situation.

According to the party, Nigerians expect the President to channel the same determination he expressed in political matters toward tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes threatening lives and communities across the country.

The statement also criticized what it described as the administration's pattern of responding to violent attacks with condolences and public statements rather than decisive action. It argued that while the President appears ready to confront the opposition politically, the country's security challenges require greater urgency and stronger leadership.

The ADC further maintained that, after more than three years in office, the administration has yet to demonstrate significant progress in addressing insecurity. It added that political strength should be measured by governance and performance, not rhetoric, insisting that the President's primary responsibility is to protect lives and restore security nationwide.
