Akpabio Apologises to Oshiomhole, Withdraws 'Unsenatorial' Remark

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has publicly apologised to Senator Adams Oshiomhole for previously describing his comments as "unsenatorial", declaring that the misunderstanding between them has been resolved.

Speaking during Thursday's plenary, Akpabio withdrew his earlier criticism of the Edo North senator and reaffirmed that the reconciliation reached between them remains intact.

"I will never refer to your comments as unsenatorial again, especially when you said, 'Bring the man dead or alive.' The truce between us remains upheld," Akpabio said.

He also expressed his respect for Oshiomhole, noting that their differences had been settled and that he values their working relationship.

The disagreement arose in June 2026 during a Senate Public Accounts Committee hearing investigating alleged financial discrepancies exceeding ₦210 trillion in the audited accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

At the hearing, Oshiomhole backed a motion seeking a warrant of arrest against former NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari after his repeated failure to honour invitations from the committee. While making his submission, the former Edo State governor said Kyari should be brought before the Senate "dead or alive."

Akpabio later criticised the statement, describing it as "unsenatorial"—a remark that drew objections from Oshiomhole. However, the Senate President's apology on Thursday effectively puts the disagreement to rest and underscores renewed cordiality between the two lawmakers.
