Nigeria Meets OPEC Quota for Third Consecutive Month

Nigeria sustained its recent improvement in oil production in July 2026, meeting its Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) crude oil production quota for the third consecutive month.

Latest data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) showed that the country produced an average of **1.505 million barrels per day (mbpd) of crude oil** during the month, slightly above its OPEC quota of 1.5mbpd.

When condensates are included, total average daily production rose to **1.67mbpd**, comprising 1.505mbpd of crude oil and 0.17mbpd of condensates.

Production fluctuated during the month, with daily output reaching a high of **1.78mbpd** and falling to a low of **1.57mbpd**.

Despite maintaining compliance with its OPEC quota, Nigeria recorded a **four per cent decline in total production compared with June**. The NUPRC attributed the reduction largely to operational difficulties at the **Erha and Akpo fields**, which affected output during the period.

According to the upstream regulator, the disruptions placed pressure on national production volumes and contributed significantly to the month-on-month decline. However, production at most other oil-producing assets remained relatively stable, while operators implemented measures to limit the impact of the operational challenges.

The July performance followed a stronger showing in June, when Nigeria's crude oil and condensate production averaged **1.735mbpd**. Crude oil production alone stood at 1.56mbpd, while condensates accounted for 0.18mbpd.

The June crude output represented **104 per cent of Nigeria's 1.5mbpd OPEC quota** and marked the country's strongest monthly crude production level since April 2020.

The NUPRC said the June performance extended Nigeria's production growth streak to a fourth consecutive month, highlighting the gradual recovery in the country's upstream oil sector.

The latest July figures suggest that, despite renewed operational setbacks at some key fields, Nigeria has continued to maintain crude production above its current OPEC allocation.
