Delta Suspends Works Commissioner Over Alleged Assault of Governor’s Aide

The Delta State Government has indefinitely suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, over allegations linking him to the assault of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s aide, Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Monday in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu.

The government said the action was necessary to allow security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation into the alleged incident, which reportedly occurred at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.

According to the statement, the suspension is aimed at ensuring that the investigation is conducted without interference.

“The suspension is to enable the security agencies to carry out an unbiased investigation of allegations associating him with the assault on the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Mr Simon Mudi, also known as Temple, at the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI, Effurun, recently,” the statement said.

The state government stressed that public safety, law and order, and respect for human life remained key priorities of the administration.

It further maintained that no individual or institution was above the law, including state officials and public institutions.

The development follows reports of an alleged confrontation between Izeze and Mudi at PTI, Effurun. The full circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to be established by the security agencies investigating the matter.

The government did not disclose the duration of the investigation or state whether the commissioner would be reinstated after the probe.

Izeze, who represents Ughelli South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, was appointed Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads) by Governor Oborevwori.

The suspension is an administrative measure to facilitate the investigation and does not amount to a declaration of guilt.
